Thanksgivukkah

Thanksgiving (and Hanukkah) are both right around the corner, and although I’m not actually hosting in our tiny apartment, that hasn’t stopped me from dreaming up the perfect tablescape to combine the two.  Using a mix of rustic fall-influenced linens, coppers, and gorgeous deep blues, some of the products below would lend themselves beautifully to this one-in-a-lifetime meal!

Statement Stationery

As part of this great segue into adulthood, I’ve found myself longing for clean and simple stationary that I can pull out and use for any needed occasion whether it be a simple thank you note or just to say “Hello”.  During a few recent browses through Etsy and Pinterest, I’ve found some amazing statement stationary that would be great to have on hand in a desk drawer.  These simple messages, embossed lettering and fun typography have me weak in the knees:

Socrates Sculpture Park

To set the tone: we awoke to a gorgeous Sunday morning.  We spent a brief moment lamenting the fact  that we no longer lived half a block from Prospect Park in Brooklyn, where getting outside was just oh so easy.  While Jackson Heights boasts a lot of green space available in the form of private yards, we have yet to find a really great park in our immediate vicinity.

However, all it took was a quick Google search and we were drowning in parks located in our new fabulous borough. As we were about to head to Queensbridge Park, I somehow landed upon the website for Socrates Sculpture Park in Astoria. As a brief “about the park”, the location is right on the waterfront where the Harlem and the East River meet.  In fact, due to a large number of ship wrecks in this small waterway during the 17th and 18th centuries, the Dutch settlers named it “Hellegat” or “Hell Gate” in English.

This abandoned marine terminal fell into disrepair and became an illegal dumping ground until 1985 when a coalition of artists took over the space.  “Socrates” was chosen as an ode to the philosopher but also in homage to the largest Greek population living in Astoria.

Josh and I had a fabulous day seeing the various sculptures, taking in the view, playing cards, and relaxing on our blanket in the shade.  This small, funky park is a definite recommend to all you locals and tourists alike.

Weekly Recap: Welcome June!

Abstractions AsideSource

Hello folks! Haven’t done one of these posts in a while, but the web had me rather inspired this week.  Enjoy some of my favorites:

Josh and I are off to Ikea this morning to brave the masses in hopes they will still have the bookshelf we want in stock by the time make it through the 3 miles of store aisles first. Once we have some actual shelving/storage, we can finish unpacking and I can finally start sharing some photos of our new apartment!  I hope you all have a lovely weekend. xo!

A Touch of Metallic

I had to. I just had to.  These little babies popped up during my online guilty Gilt shop during lunch and there was no turning back. They arrive in a few days.  Side note to my husband: go easy on me 😉

I love the juxtaposition of the nude, coral, and metallic leather straps. The deal ($79 down from $215) wasn’t bad either!

Here are a few other fab sandals that offer just a touch of metallic, obviously on track to be one of this summer’s trends:

What do you guys think? Will touches of metallic make it into your shoe wardrobe this spring/summer? xo
